Mari Selvaraj entered the industry as an assistant to director Ram, working with him in three films - Kattradhu Tamizh, Thanga Meenkal and Taramani - before making his debut as director in 2018 with the phenomenal Pariyerum Perumal. The director has the unreleased Oru Pakka Kathai that has been caught in financial issues since 2014. While this film did not make a huge box office impact, Balaji’s reputation for delivering unique stories remained intact. Six years later, Balaji came up with Seethakaathi, once again starring Vijay Sethupathi. This film also gave Vijay Sethupathi his much needed break and was highly regarded for its simple story and interesting screenplay. His first film that released in 2012, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, got him the Edison Award for Best Debutant Director, Vijay Award for Best Debut Director in addition to winning Norway Tamil Film Festival Best Story Award. His new project with Vijay, currently titled Thalapathy 64, has an interesting cast with actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Antony Varghese and Malavika Mohanan on board.īalaji is just two films old but the director has created quite a fanbase for himself within that short span of time. While Kaithi, his latest film with Karthi that released for Deepavali has been well received by audience and is doing well in theatres, fans are eagerly waiting for updates on his next.

Another young director who surprised the audiences is Ashwin Saravanan who was about 24 when he made his very first film, Maya, in 2015 with Nayanthara in the lead, no less.
